Dad did not finish his Bachelors because of WWI. He was sent to Ft. Meade in 1918. His sweetheart, Mom, went to Washington , DC to drive a car for VIPs. (This freed up a man to go overseas). They got married in 1918 and Dad came to Alcoa, TN after the war. He got a job as a laborer at the Aluminum Company of America and his job was to unload cars with bauxite. One day he spotted a dynamite cap in some of the ore that had not detonated. He jumped into the crusher and threw that chunk of ore out. This brought him to the attention of the foreman. From then on he moved up the ladder. In WWII he spent much time in Pittsburgh, PA designing plants. After 37 years he retired (At that time he was Supt. of the Alcoa Reduction Plant, where the ore was refined into basic aluminum). Dad preached to me that I should get with a company and stay with them for years in order to succeed. He died of prostate cancer in 1979. As I kick up more photos of my family I will add them to this page...ok?
